DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado high country could get a taste of winter this weekend. After a warm start to October, some areas are expecting snow and colder temperatures.

“The month of October is always a toss-up,” said Loryn Roberson at Loveland Ski Area. But the staff is excited to see the forecast for the coming week.

Which Colorado towns could see snow this weekend?

“We’re right on track. So, as long as things turn around this weekend, or in the next week, our teams can just start making snow 24/7 and we could look at opening in the next ten days,” Roberson said.

Last year Loveland opened on Nov. 10. Keystone opened on Nov. 1, and Arapahoe Basin opened on Oct. 29.

“We’re still hoping to make that October opening this year, always still a possibility,” said Shayla Silverman with Arapahoe Basin.

She said her crews are hopeful. Snow would be great, but what they really need is several days of cold dry weather.

“For snowmaking, we are looking for 25 to 27 degrees wet bulb temperature, which takes humidity into account. That’s really where we can start getting the snow guns on, start blowing snow and start building up from there,” Silverman said.

Other resorts are hopeful as well. Breckenridge is planning to open Nov. 8. Vail is planning to open Nov.15.
