PUEBLO. Colo. (KXRM) — A suspect was arrested in Pueblo after police said he falsely reported a kidnapping on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

On Wednesday just before 5:15 p.m., the Pueblo Police Department was dispatched to the Sunset Bowling Alley, located at 1227 South Prairie Avenue on a report of a kidnapping and vehicle theft.

When officers arrived, they gathered information from the man who reported the kidnapping, identified as 34-year-old Daniel Reyes, who said his 13-year-old cousin “Sandra” was inside his white F-250 when it was stolen.

Pueblo police said the investigation escalated quickly and involved multiple jurisdictions and agencies. After an extensive search, the F-250 was found empty in the 1100 block of Cypress Street, prompting an AMBER Alet to be sent just before 8:50 p.m.

After four hours into the investigation, information was called in, which detectives followed up on and discovered that the reported kidnapped girl had no relation to Daniel, and she was safe at home.

Reyes was brought to the police department and questioned by police regarding the false kidnapping report. He was then arrested and transported to the Pueblo County Detention Center on a felony charge of attempt to influence a public servant.

“While working an armed, barricaded suspect incident on the north side of town, the men and women in dispatch and of our department, other responding agencies, and community members displayed the highest degree of teamwork, tenacity, and dedication to locate the reported kidnapping victim,” said Pueblo Police Chief Chris Noeller. “False reporting wastes countless hours of manpower and resources, not only in our community, but also in the surrounding areas limiting law enforcement’s ability to respond to additional needs. Our department is thankful the juvenile was safe in this incident.”

This case is still under investigation, according to police.
