DENVER (KDVR) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed a victim at gunpoint before firing shots at him.

The incident happened Friday around 6 p.m. near Belleview Avenue and Owens Street.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office , the victim, a man, had pulled his car into a parking spot at his apartment complex in the 11400 block of W. Burgandy Avenue when the suspect approached him.

The suspect, a man, allegedly approached the victim’s vehicle and pointed a handgun at his face through an open window, ordering him to surrender his wallet and phone. The victim handed over his wallet but not his phone, and then the suspect struck him in the face with the gun and ran to a green Subaru parked in the same parking lot, according to the release.

“The victim followed the Subaru north on Simms toward Belleview, repeatedly using his vehicle to rear-end the suspect’s vehicle. After colliding with the victim’s vehicle, the suspect vehicle became high-centered on top of a large landscaping rock at Belleview and Owens,” the sheriff’s office stated.

The suspect got out of his car and fired several rounds at the victim, hitting his vehicle, according to JCSO. The victim was not hurt.

The sheriff’s office said the suspect and a female passenger ran into the neighborhood while bystanders watched the incident unfold.

“Deputies established a perimeter and began searching yard-to-yard for the suspects using assistance from the K-9 Unit and Drone Team. Despite best efforts, the suspects were not located,” the sheriff’s office said.
