Photos: Colorado mountains getting snow with weekend storm, manmade powder

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Parts of Colorado are getting a good amount of snow this weekend, with some coming from the sky and some being manmade at ski areas and resorts.
Mother Nature’s snow is mostly hitting southern Colorado this weekend, particularly the San Juan mountains.
Before this weekend, the Colorado mountains had only seen a dusting of snow in September . But a storm began rolling in on Friday, and some areas already have snow on the ground as of Saturday afternoon.
Colorado Department of Transportation cameras showed snow piling up on the sides of roads in Southern Colorado.
Here is how the snow was looking as of Saturday afternoon:

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center said in a post on X that the San Juan Mountains could see enough snow this weekend to create small avalanche risks .
Colorado ski areas begin making snow
Several Colorado ski resorts and ski areas are taking advantage of the cool temperatures this weekend to start making snow.
Thursday night into Friday, Keystone Resort officially began snowmaking operations for the season. The resort does not yet have an opening date. According to a press release, the resort is working to determine an opening date as soon as possible.

Loveland Ski Area also fired up the snow guns at Loveland Valley and Loveland Basin this weekend.
“The snowmaking team will be monitoring temperatures around the clock and continue making snow whenever conditions allow. The upcoming forecast is looking good,” the ski area said in a press release Friday.
