    Man who hit Z Trip vehicle, killing passenger in police chase sentenced

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The man who was charged with first-degree manslaughter and resisting arrest following a 2022 crash that left a Z Trip passenger dead after a police chase has been sentenced today, August 16.

    Karam Jackson, 20, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and resisting arrest. He received eight years in prison for manslaughter and four years for resisting arrest. These sentences will run concurrently, for a total of 12 years.

    Court documents show that on March 23, 2022, KCPD officers attempted to stop Jackson’s vehicle, which was involved in a carjacking. While Jackson was attempting to evade the police, a Z Trip vehicle was stopped at a light, waiting to turn left when it was hit head-on by Jackson’s vehicle as he ran a red light.

    The passenger, Erika Miller, 38, died from her injuries shortly after at Truman Medical Center.
