    12-year-old boy killed in overnight house fire in Independence

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Investigations are underway after a 12-year-old boy was killed in a house fire early Saturday morning in Independence, Mo.

    According to IFD, crews were dispatched at about 3:05 a.m. to a home near the 1300 block of East Salisbury Road on reports of a house fire and a male possibly still inside.

    Upon arrival, units saw smoke coming out of the front door. They quickly entered the home, found a young boy, and immediately started performing resuscitation efforts.

    IFD said the fire was quickly extinguished and the boy was taken to a hospital. Shortly after, he was pronounced dead.

    The cause of the fatal fire is currently under investigation by the IFD Fire Investigation Unit and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
