    The latest in tug of war over Jackson County property tax assessments

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In a flurry of activity, the Missouri State Tax Commission issued an order to Jackson County: Roll back 2023 assessments to no more than a 15% increase . This, in spite of it being a party to the lawsuit brought by Attorney General Andrew Bailey.

    Bailey then moved to have the case dismissed, and it was the following day.

    So, where do things stand now? Jackson County officials have made it clear they believe the STC order is unenforceable , and that politics is behind the moves. The commission is standing by its order.

    This week we’re joined by the State Tax Commission Chairman Gary Romine, and Jackson County Counselor Bryan Covinsky. Both weigh in on their positions as the drama continues to play out.
