Police investigating death of Shawnee Mission Northwest student

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Shawnee Police Department has launched a death investigation at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School.

This comes following the death of a high school football player last wee k.

The 15-year-old sophomore, identified as Ovet Gomez Regalado, was taken to the hospital by Johnson County Med-Act in critical condition on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and died two days later on Friday, Aug. 16.

Shawnee Mission Northwest students gathered on the football field on Saturday to remember Regalado .

The police department said that due to the ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time.
