Motorcyclist seriously injured after crash near Independence Ave.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is in the hospital with serious injuries after a motorcycle crash in Kansas City, Missouri late Saturday night.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, just before 11:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the scene of a motorcycle crash near Independence and Lawndale Avenues.

Preliminary investigations revealed that prior to the crash, a Honda Nighthawk motorcycle had been driving through the area of Independence and Lawndale when a patrol car attempted to stop the driver.

The Honda refused to stop and began driving northbound in the opposite lanes of traffic on Lawndale. KCPD said Lawndale is a one-way, southbound road.

According to police, the Honda then entered the intersection of St. John and Lawndale and was struck by a BMW 328I.

The driver of the BMW was uninjured in the crash, however, the motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the Honda and suffered critical injuries.

KCPD said the driver of the motorcycle is currently in “serious but stable condition,” and the cause of the crash is under investigation.
