Hearing set to discuss suspect’s mental state in Ralph Yarl shooting case

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There are questions surrounding the mental state of a man charged with shooting a Kansas City teen after he came to his door by mistake.

Andrew Lester is scheduled to be in court Friday.

The hearing follows a motion that his defense filed earlier this week.

It argues Lester has memory issues.

Prosecutors say that may not be enough to call for an evaluation.

Lester is charged with shooting Ralph Yarl, who was trying to pick up his siblings when he went to Lester’s home by mistake.

The defense argues Lester was acting in self defense and feared for his life.

Right now, the trial is set to begin in October .
