    Man killed, woman injured in late-night shooting in Kansas City

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police are investigating after a man was killed and a woman was injured during a shooting Tuesday night in Kansas City, Missouri.

    According to the Kansas City Police Department, on-duty officers were patrolling the area of 55th Street and Prospect Avenue when they heard sounds of gunfire to their east.

    KCPD said officers drove to the area to investigate, and upon arriving at 55th Street and South Benton Avenue, they found a man, 39-year-old Shroy Lapsely, and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

    After EMS arrived, both victims were taken to a hospital: the woman with non-life-threatening injuries, and Lapsely with “more serious injuries.”

    Police said he later died at the hospital at about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.

    The investigation is ongoing as detectives and crime scene investigators process the scene and search for witnesses.

    At this time, there is no word of one or multiple suspects.
