MANHATTAN ( KSNT ) – Several football fans who received parking tickets at K-State’s season opener will not have to pay up, according to the Riley County Police Department (RCPD).

The Riley County Police Department (RCPD) shared on social media Saturday, Aug. 31 that some parking tickets issued near Bill Snyder Family Stadium will be voided, after being issued in error.

“If you were issued a parking ticket today, August 31, between the hours of 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM for parking in a yard on Himes Road, Jarvis, or Hillcrest, please note that these tickets were issued in error and will be voided.”

Ashley Tokoi, a spokeswoman with the RCPD, told 27 News these tickets were issued because people were parked in yards on Himes Road, Jarvis and Hillcrest Drive.

“While that is a violation normally, in City Code there is a provision allowing people to park in yards for Home KSU games,” Tokoi said.

According to Manhattan City Code , property owners can allow temporary parking in their front yard during K-State home football games. Temporary yard parking is available within Brown Avenue on the west side, Claflin Road on the south side and Denison Avenue on the east side and the city limits north of the stadium.

Tokoi said the issuing officer was unaware of this ordinance when issuing approximately 16 parking tickets. Anyone who received a parking ticket while parking on a yard listed above in the timeframe are encouraged call RCPD during regular business hours or go to the station to have an officer explain the process.
