OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Ron Gillespie is a volunteer with non-profit, Beak N Wings, a parrot rescue. He says the man behind the 501c.3, Dean Tyson, deserves recognition.

“Dean is so passionate about the birds,” said Gillespie, “what began as a bird club has really evolved into saving birds that might otherwise perish.”

Gillespie says since Beak N Wings was founded in 1999, more than 2,600 birds have been rescued. Most of the birds are in foster homes while others stay at the Lenexa rescue facility.
