KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A California man who investigators say was driving drunk with an open container and a suspended license faces four charges, including second-degree murder, in connection to a deadly weekend crash in Lenexa .

The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against 31-year-old Vincente F. Perez of Barstow, California, on Monday. Lenexa police say 71-year-old Susan Cameron died in the crash near the intersection of College Boulevard and Lackman Road at about 5:30 on Saturday night.

Lenexa police say a 74-year-old man was also hurt in the two-car crash, but is expected to recover from his injuries.

Police say Perez was driving a Subaru WRX east on College when he rear-ended a Nissan Altima where Cameron was a passenger. She died at the scene.

A news release from Lenexa police says the collision caused both cars to leave the road.

Perez was hospitalized, discharged, and taken to jail later on Saturday night. He faces second-degree murder, DUI, transporting an open container of alcohol and driving with a suspended license.

His bond is set at $750,000 and he makes his first court appearance on Monday afternoon.
