KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Today, September 11, 2024, Mayor Quinton Lucas introduced a new fund to help support small businesses affected by property crime and break-ins.

The Back to Business Fund is a two-pronged program that would aim to help small businesses in the metro recover from incidents of burglaries and vandalism. The fund would also assist businesses in acquiring security measures such as cameras and locks.

The details of the fund include up to $3,000 per business for repairs for incidents from July 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025.

Additionally, up to $5,000 per business for security measures acquired between July 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025.

Eligible businesses must have a current City of Kansas City business license and must provide documentation of damages or preventative measures taken. The program will then review applications until the funds are exhausted.

Mayor Lucas will be holding a press conference on Thursday, September 12 at 12:45 p.m. at the Waldo City Barrel to discuss more details regarding the fund.

This plan comes in the wake of a recent surge of property crimes across the metro. Small business owners and residents alike have been concerned, calling for change in their community.

This fund would potentially help to alleviate some of the troubles facing small business owners affected by this crime surge.
