    30 homes evacuated following gas leak in Leawood

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Residents in part of Leawood are now being allowed to return to their homes following a gas leak Wednesday afternoon.

    Just after 2 p.m. the Leawood Fire Department, Overland Park Fire Department and Johnson County MedAct responded to the area of W. 113th Terrace and Granada Lane for the reported gas leak.

    When fire crews arrived on scene they were informed that a construction contractor struck a gas main.

    Due to the presence of natural gas readings in the sewer system, 30 homes were evacuated within 300 feet of the gas main leak as a precaution.

    No injuries have been reported at this time.

    Just before 5:30 p.m. Leawood police reported the gas main break was under control and road in the area were being opened.
