Lansing Correctional Facility prisoner sentenced for killing cellmate

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 31-year-old prisoner at the Lansing Correctional Facility has been sentenced for beating and strangling his cellmate, according to the Leavenworth County Attorney.

According to court documents, Al’Ryon Perkins was sentenced on Wednesday, September 11 to 653 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for second-degree murder.

Court documents also show that on November 25, 2023, Lansing Correctional Facility staff were made aware of a homicide inside Perkins’ cell. Perkins admitted to investigators that he strangled the victim with his hands before flipping him around and using his arm to strangle him.

Perkins later went on to detail how he tied a sheet around the victim’s next and sat on him with a pillow to make sure he was “gone.”

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victim’s family as they continue healing,” said Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.
