    Tech industry adding jobs: KC Tech Council releases 2024 annual report

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — On Thursday, the Kansas City Tech Council released its “KC Tech Specs” report.

    The comprehensive report focuses on the economic and workforce trends that impact the region’s tech industry. Here’s what the council had to say in its report:

    Kansas City holds one of the largest tech workforces per capita in the Midwest with over 5,223 existing tech businesses and employing more than one out of every 10 workers. Kansas Ctiy also has a more dense tech talent base than other Midwest cities such as Chicago, Charlotte, St. Louis, Houston and Nashville.

    Additionally, the region’s tech workforce grew by 16% between 2021 and 2023. According to the tech council, projections show job growth through 2024 as well. The council also says that the talent is diverse, as young and mid-career workers make up the majority of the tech workforce in KC.

    The KC Tech Council also claims that Kansas City’s tech industry was more stable after the pandemic. Kansas City was more moderate in the year-over-year slowdown than other cities in the nation.

    Kansas City also surpasses the national average in artificial intelligence (AI) investments. With over $7.8 million in investments dedicated to AI, local tech companies are embracing the industry.
