    KCFD firefighter-paramedic dies after medical emergency

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A firefighter-paramedic with the Kansas City Fire Department has died following a medical emergency late Tuesday morning.

    According to the city, KCFD conducted a training exercise around 11:45 a.m. when a member of the fire department experienced a medical emergency.

    He was taken to North Kansas City Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. He is not being identified at this time.

    The city says he was a 10-year veteran with KCFD with the Rescue Division at Station 35.

    “I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss today of a member of the Kansas City Fire Department who served our community with courage and commitment for a decade,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas. “Our community will forever cherish his dedication to the people of Kansas City and his love and devotion to service. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and all of his brothers and sisters at KCFD.”

    The city said it will provide an update on Wednesday.
