Man fighting for life after being hit in three-car crash in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is fighting for their life in a hospital after a three-car crash in Kansas City early Wednesday morning.

According to the Kansas City Police Department, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) located a stranded driver whose Jaguar car had been stalled in a lane of traffic on southbound Interstate 435, just north of Eastwood Trafficway.

The Jaguar reportedly had “alternator issues.”

KCPD said MoDOT was able to get the driver and the Jaguar off the highway and onto Eastwood Trafficway.

However, just after 5 a.m., the Jaguar returned to I-435 but became stalled in the second southbound lane of traffic. While in his car, he was hit in the rear by a Mercedes.

After the crash, the driver of the Jaguar exited his car and stood behind the Mercedes in the second lane of I-435 to use the light on his cell phone and alert other drivers.

About 10 minutes later, the driver of a Volkswagen reportedly did not see the car or the driver of the Jaguar and hit him, pinning him between the Mercedes and the Volkswagen.

KCPD said the driver of the Jaguar was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes receieved minor injuries in the first crash, and the driver of the Volkwagen reported no injuries.

According to KCPD, “The highway was closed for approximately 2 hours, but one lane using exit and on-ramp to bypass crash was used for traffic movement.”

The crash is currently under investigation.
