OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Faith Owens and her husband took over the Paulie’s Penguin Christmas display tradition last year . This year, the family introduced a new Halloween display.

The display is now set up and ready for visitors.

All of the donations received through the Halloween display will go to a local woman who is battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“The guy who installs our Christmas lights, we found out that his girlfriend, Praelie Barnett, has Hodgkin’s lymphoma,” said Faith Owens, who owns the inflatables.

So this year, we decided that we were going to sponsor her and take donations like Paulie used to do with the penguins.”

When Faith Owens and her husband learned about Barnett’s battle with cancer, they wanted to help. They set up the Halloween display and installed a donation box for visitors who want to help the cause.

“Starting on the first, we will have drinks and candy set out for people. So that way, if they are donating or whatever, they can take candy, Capri sun pouches, or Kool-Aid pouches as they please,” Owens said.

The cause behind the Halloween attraction has ties to the original Paulie’s Penguin Playground Christmas display, which raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society .

“It was just one of those things that we thought was a sign. We’re back in the original neighborhood, so why not?” Owens asked.

The Owens family is excited to continue the Paulie’s Penguin tradition and introduce visitors to the new Halloween-themed display.

“It’s always the kids laughing like ever since we actually put up the first big (inflatables), we had a whole neighborhood of kids just down here riding their bikes and playing in the yard, and it’s been very lively down here,” Owens said.

There are plenty of photo ops around the Halloween display that visitors can enjoy.
