KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An organization dedicated to get men talking about mental health is getting lawmakers and the public together this weekend to talk about what some describe as a mental health crisis in Kansas City.

A.L. Johnson started Elevating Men from his personal experience dealing with mental health after the death of his father in 2020.

This weekend, a town hall will bring together mental health professionals and lawmakers like Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, Missouri Senator Barbara Washington and Missouri Rep. Mike Johnson, to discuss making mental health support more accessible.

“Most importantly we want to make sure people get their voices heard,” Johnson said. It’s an election year and it’s extremely important that our politicians and representatives know exactly what we want to happen.”
