KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art announced on Wednesday that it will be launching a new podcast series to teach art lovers about the historic craft, as well as the ins and outs of the art world.

The new series, “Art Bytes,” is set to launch on Friday, Oct. 4, with all episodes centering around educating people who have an interest in art but don’t know about the stories, processes and history behind specific pieces.

“The Nelson-Atkins is constantly exploring creative ways to provide access to some of the most interesting voices in the art world today,” said Director & CEO of the Nelson-Atkins Julián Zugazagoitia.

“’Art Bytes’ is a complementary continuation of the museum’s audio content strategy that began with the award-winning podcast ‘ A Frame of Mind.'” Zugazagoitia continued. “This is an immediately accessible way to tell interesting stories through an organic and fun conversation.”

The museum said that on Oct. 4, five episodes will immediately drop, followed by individual episodes on the first Friday of every month.

The first few launches will include a conversation with art collector and comedian Cheech Marin of Cheech and Chong. According to the museum, Marin has collected for years and now has a collection housed in the Southern California Museum.

He came to Kansas City to see the exhibition “A Layered Presence/Una Presencia Estratificada.” This project features about 22 local artists with ties to Latin America.

“The exhibition was a delightful surprise to Marin, who was so impressed that he added to his collection by purchasing one of the works by Israel Alejandro García García,” the museum said.

Mojado No. 1 explores the immigrant experience, drawing from the artist’s practice of collecting images, objects, and stories from underrepresented diasporic communities.”

Other voices fans can expect are Venezuelan artist Elias Crespin who began his career as an engineer but later turned to sculpting large and beautiful structures. As well as this, Samantha Koslow of Christie’s Auction House at Rockefeller Plaza will offer unique perspectives of the high-end auction scene.

Several other artists and collectors will be featured in the new series, including art therapist Sherri Jacobs and Aimee Marcereau DeGalan, Louis L. and Adelaide C. Ward.

“Art Bytes” is the second podcast launched by the Nelson-Atkins. It comes almost two years after “ A Frame of Mind ,” a five-part podcast series that explored topics like race, representation, identity and belonging through art history and experiences in museums.

The Nelson-Atkins said the second season of “A Frame of Mind” is set to drop in early 2025.
