Minors remain in custody in Shaun Brady murder case

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two teenagers charged with murder in the killing of popular restaurant owner and Irish chef Shaun Brady will remain in custody as the courts decide whether to charge them as adults.

The teens haven’t been identified due to their juvenile status, both face second-degree murder in the deadly shooting of Brady, which happened after Kansas City police say he tried to stop them from stealing a car outside his restaurant, Brady & Fox, at E. 63rd and Rockhill Road the evening of August 28.

The suspects will return to court on October 22 for detention reviews and again in December for their certification hearings.

The deadly shooting happened just days before KC Irish Fest , where Brady played a pivotal role.

“He was a really beloved figure in our community. He was a native of Tipperary in Ireland and just a generous do anything for anybody kind of guy. A lot of us are just stunned, crying, angry, wondering why? What for?” friend Pat O’Neill told FOX4 after the shooting.

KC Irish Fest created a memorial fund to help Brady’s family .

The shooting left the Brookside community in shock and demanding answers after repeated instances of property crimes over the summer, some involving juveniles who were armed, and in some cases pointed weapons at people.

“The police know that these break-ins and car thefts are up. This one was in the middle of the day. Who would think that, in the middle of the day, you’d get shot outside your business?” Frederick Thompson told FOX4 after the shooting.

The community also made a green ribbon tribute to Brady that neighbors planned to keep through September.
