KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tamara Smith, a Kansas City grandmother says she was sitting in her home when three people, two of which were armed, broke in.

“They were wrong, they had no business coming into my house,” she said.

Smith wants the thieves to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

“I said could you either please calm down or at least remove the clip from the gun and from that point on, it escalated,” Smith explained.

This all happened Saturday, September 21, otherwise a completely normal weekend day for Smith. She says she was simply hanging out at home and getting things done around the house.

However, it quickly became abnormal and quite a terrifying encounter would follow.

“I heard a noise back here and I started to come out of the kitchen because I was doing laundry and when I got to about right here, she was in the house,” Smith detailed.

You can see the damage left behind where they broke in.

Once they were in, Smith ran into her room. She says the three thieves, at least one armed with a gun and the other with a knife, rummaged through her home.

According to Smith, all she could do was call on her God.

“I just prayed, I prayed. I just said, ‘dear lord please protect me, keep me safe,’ then I started speaking in tongues I’m spirit filled,” Smith said.

Smith says the two women and the man who joined them made it out with her keys, identification information, her purse, a computer, two iPads and more.

We reached out to KCPD who responded that night and they told us the case is still currently under investigation.

When FOX4 asked what her message to the criminals was, Smith said, “You’re lucky I’ve changed.”

Smith also says she will be moving out of her home in the coming days. Saying what happened was not only scary, but the problem has reached the quote “ridiculous level” here in Kansas City.

Of course, she is eternally grateful that she is still alive and here with us.
