BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Vandals hit a Blue Springs neighborhood late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, slashing dozens of tires, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

It happened in the Timber Oaks neighborhood just off 7 Highway in Blue Springs where the sounds of loosening and tightening lugnuts were heard often Wednesday.

Vandals slashed tires on more than a dozen cars parked along Northwest Roanoke Drive and surrounding side streets based on cars still being serviced roadside Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Springs Police Department said they are currently investigating 11 different reports of damage to cars in the Timber Oak area. One person has been arrested and other suspects have been identified. They said they are working towards arresting additional suspects.

“The community Facebook feed said something happened with tires and I checked it and sure enough I had two flat tires today,” Eric Gall said.

Gall considered himself lucky, they slashed his trailer’s tires and not the more expensive truck tires. But for some it meant a day out of work.

“Most people live paycheck to paycheck like we do and having to spend hundreds of dollars to fix your work vehicle, or your opportunity to go to work, is very devastating,” Amanda Minjares said.

Nick Hill had to fork over $900 for new tires.

“They are probably just a bunch of kids that didn’t really think or care really the expense to everybody else for their hour or two hours of fun time,” Hill said.

He spent the afternoon, not only changing his tires, but neighbors’ too.

“I’m like ‘I’m getting a tow’ and he said ‘don’t do that’ and he showed up and took the tires off my car and offered to put them back on and everything,” Amber Sheddrick, who also had her tires slash.

In a way the perplexing crime brought the community closer.

“Bad things happen but good people come together,” Sheddrick said.

Video captured some of the vandals movements, but not everything. Neighbors say it only will make them more vigilant.

“I’ve adjusted my cameras to cover the whole street now. So we’ll see next time. Hopefully there’s not a next time right,” Gall said.

I’d like to know how old they are, and what time it was. Isn’t it a school night? Where the hell are the parents? They should all have to split the cost for every single tire! Make the parents pay for it, and I guarantee it won’t happen again.
