High police presence at Plattsburg High School in active threat report

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Plattsburg Police Department announced that today, September 26, officers and deputies from various surrounding departments were dispatched to Plattsburg High School on reports of an active threat.

According to police, no suspects were located following primary and secondary searches.

According to a release from the police department the report came from the Veteran’s Suicide Hotline around 11:02 a.m. The report claimed that there was an individual locked in a bathroom in the school with an AR-15 with the intent to harm students.

The Clinton County R-lll School District went into lockdown during the incident while law enforcement searched the building.

Officers from the Plattsburg Police Department, Clinton Co. Sheriff’s Office, Lathrop Police Department, Dekalb Co. Sheriff’s Office, Buchannan Co. Sheriff’s Office, Clay Co. Sheriff’s Office, Kearney Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the school.

According to the report, no person with a firearm was located upon primary and secondary searches of both the Plattsburg High and Middle Schools. After the search was completed, the superintendent notified that the schools were safe and no threat was located.

Clinton County R-lll School District used a parent notification program to keep parents and family members updated during the process.

Law enforcement will remain on the scene until the end of the day to ensure the safety of all students.
