NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo.- A number of fans came to Chappell’s Restaurant & Sports Museum to watch the Royals’ final game of their three-game series against the Washington Nationals.

The boys in blue swept the Nationals after losing seven straight, winning 7-4.

A lot of the people who ate there Thursday probably didn’t go there with the game at the top of their mind, but for Northlanders Samantha Campbell, Don Hanks and Bill Lake, going to that restaurant was perfect.

“This game is very important because, like you had mentioned earlier, Atlanta you know, they’re not going to roll over and play dead,” Lake said in his interview Thursday, talking about the Royals’ next opponent.

The Braves are still in the postseason hunt while the Nationals are not. The Braves also have a starting pitcher in the running for a Cy Young award in Chris Sale.

“I know they’re tough, and they’ve got something to play for,” Hanks said at the restaurant.

FOX4’s interviews with Hanks and Lake were at the beginning of Thursday afternoon’s game. By the time the top of the ninth inning rolled around with the game tied at four, the two and Campbell had already left, but others stuck around.

Kansas City residents Debbie and Roger Kamps watched Adam Frazier hit a two-run pinch-hit single to make the game 6-4. Salvador Perez drove in another run, and the Royals won 7-4.

“I’m very excited about it. We’ve got to do it. We’ve got to do it,” Debbie said about the Royals getting to the playoffs.

“We’ve had too good of a season. I don’t count those seven losses. I don’t count that. That was just a blip. I don’t know what was going on.”

Even after Thursday’s game, Roger seemed a little nervous but hopeful that the Royals could make the postseason.

“I’d like to just win one game,” he said in his interview with FOX4, talking about the Royals’ series with Atlanta.

“Yeah, and the Twins have kind of, they’ve lost it, I think. Yeah.”

Early Thursday evening, the Royals had a two-and-a-half game lead on the Twins who play at 6:40 p.m. The Twins have the tiebreaker against the Royals though, so the boys in blue have to finish the season at least one game ahead of them to get a Wild Card spot over them.

The Royals have just three games left in the regular season.
