    Man sentenced for 2022 Mission shooting that left teen dead

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The man convicted of killing a teen in northeast Johnson County, Kansas over two years ago, will now spend life in prison.

    A jury found Deon Eugene Austin guilty of first-degree murder and aggravated battery last month .

    Austin is accused of shooting and killing 16-year-old Jammaal Blacknoll, Jr. on April 10, 2022 , at the Silverwood Apartments near 51st Street and Foxridge Drive.

    The shooting was just the second homicide in Mission in 23 years and the first since 2012.

    A 13-year-old girl was also injured in the shooting. Police said neither of the victims were residents of Mission.

    Austin will not be eligible for parole until he serves at least 50 years in prison.
