KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Pumpkin spice is everywhere you turn, and as the weather gets cooler and the days get shorter, turn your gaze toward the trees to see that beautiful collage of red, purple, orange and yellow.

In Kansas City, leaves typically change color from mid-October to early November, with the first yellow leaves appearing in the third or fourth week of October, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation .

Orange and red leaves are expected to appear around the end of October, and red and brown leaves are expected to appear in early November.

However, the exact timing can vary depending on weather patterns, such as temperature, daylight, precipitation, and drought. For example, warm, sunny days followed by cool nights can speed up the process

According to ExploreFall.com , daylight and temperature are the main factors in peak fall colors. Over the last 30 years, average peak foliage in Missouri and Kansas is in the final days of October.

The current forecast for the Kansas City metro is November 3. Drought conditions may help accelerate this a touch quicker, but it will also depend on low temperatures. We will need near-average rainfall over the next month to get the best colors.

Currently, fall colors have already begun in the Colorado Rockies , with high color for a good portion of the higher elevations out west. The Midwest is starting to get some color in the northern parts. Out Northeast, you can see lots of fall colors.
