North Kansas City restaurant looks to Royals past and future

NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A North Kansas City restaurant and sports museum is also home to Kansas City Royals history.

Inside Chappell’s Restaurant and Sports Museum, you’ll find old programs, photos and uniforms dating back to the start of the Royals in 1969.

“What was interesting is I opened up the year after the Royals won the World Series in 1985 so I had a lot of memorabilia to put in and we still have it,” said Jim Chappell, founder of Chappell’s Restaurant and Sports Museum.

Jim Chappell is the found of the establishment, which is now under new ownership but still every bit of a sports fans dream.

“We’ve got 10 thousand pieces of memorabilia in here it’s been named by Sports Illustrated one of the top 10 sports bars in the country,” Chappell said.

If you blink inside the restaurant, you’ll likely miss something with the walls covered in memorabilia.

Putting the Royals history on display as fans look to the future.

“In July I didn’t think we would be doing this interview…and I am really happy are because they have really come alive,” Chappell said.

Chappell is ready for what’s to come.

“I expect more (memorabilia). I think we are going to win the World Series,” he said.

Chappell’s Restaurant and Sports Museum is in North Kansas City on Armour Road.
