KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In a sea of royal blue, one fan wore a white Yankees coat.

“I was born and raised in New York City, and I decided to transfer to Kansas City,” Henry Delgado said.

“I had to wear my Yankee colors today, I was a little bit tired of being undercover wearing my Royals cap, I couldn’t do it! I couldn’t do it! I got to show my colors!”

Delgado said that he’s been impressed by the Royals pitching staff so far.

“Royals pitching has really clamped down,” Delgado said.

“They’ve done their homework on Yankee hitters as far as keeping the ball away from them.”

Royals fans at the Power and Light district were overall, pretty happy with the series so far.

“In the first game we played well enough to win,” said Royals fan Justin Long.

“But it was a little bit of a bad little call that kind of went against us, but I don’t want to blame the officials for nothing, but it was a good game.”

He said this year and this team feels like it did when the Royals made an unexpected postseason run to the World Series.

“I see a team kind of like the 2014 team that kind of caught people by surprise,” he said.

“A lot of people weren’t paying attention early on but now that we in the playoffs a lot of people are paying attention to us.”

Fans who spoke with FOX4 said that there’s been a lot of good things happening in the postseason.

“I like their defensive execution in it, especially in the last game in New York,” Long said.

“Huge improvement from last year, and it’s amazing that the Royals went from 2nd or 3rd to last last year to the postseason,” another fan, Michael Richardson, said.

“It’s fun to watch them progress and grow as a team from that, Matt Quatraro is doing an amazing job.”

Most of the fans agreed that they’d like to see Bobby Witt Jr. get back to hitting well. In the previous games against the Yankees, the Royals shortstop hasn’t recorded a hit.

Royals fans amped for first playoff game in Kansas City since 2015

“I hope to see Bobby Witt get out of his little cold streak; you know?” asked Richardson.

“But he’s nervous, it’s the postseason, so anyone would be, I kind of hopes he breaks that.”

Both Richardson and Long think that playing at home gives the Royals a massive advantage.

“At home you have the crowd rolling for you, so hopefully that’s an advantage for them,” Richardson said.

“Oh yeah, the home crowd is definitely loud,” said Long.

“Especially with the Chiefs on their bye week, everyone’s going to be at the K right now and I’m sure in back-to-back nights, the K is going to be the loudest they’ve ever been!”
