KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Despite the Royals loss on Wednesday night, Thursday’s crowd was optimistic about their chances heading into an elimination game.

“We’ll take care of business tonight and we’ll go beat them in front of their own crowd,” said Royals fan Chris Davidson. “When you get ownership that believes in the team and invests in the team, it makes the team believe in themselves and the fans themselves will start believing,” he said.

The Royals have waited 9 years to return to the MLB postseason, and even though the team was in a win-or-go-home scenario, the fans loved that postseason baseball was back at Kauffman Stadium.

“I try to tell my kids, don’t take advantage of it because you don’t know when it’s not going to be happening anymore,” Davidson said. “Postseason baseball is the best,” said fan Aaron Salazar.

“Like it’s just edge of your seat, every pitch, super intense, I don’t think anything beats postseason baseball.”

The allure of playoff baseball brought Tim Ellenz from Palm Desert, California.

“Oh, there’s nothing like it,” he said. “It’s an excitement, it’s what you watch baseball for your whole life. It’s where things get really serious and it’s emotional. I’ll be honest with you it’s emotional.” He was at the world series when the Royals won in 1985 and again in 2015 but says this year has been truly unprecedented.

“It’s unbelievable. If you think about it, they lost 106 games last year! That’s impressive. I mean, you look back on all those series that we were in, you could see that happening, no one is seeing this happening.”

Aaron Salazar, who attended last night’s game, says that he hopes the crowd brings the same energy.

“Postseason baseball is the best. Like it’s just edge of your seat, every pitch, super intense, I don’t think anything beats postseason baseball,” he said. “We’re going to be on it. We’re going to be on our A game, crowd’s going to be in it for sure. We don’t ever have to worry about a postseason crowd in Kansas City, man.”
