    Two Sacramento-area high schools are one win away from CIF state title games

    (FOX40.COM) — Two teams in the Sacramento region are still alive for a state title in high school basketball.

    The Colfax girls basketball team and the Union Mine boys basketball team are both competing in the regional finals in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state playoffs.

    The regional finals are on Tuesday night with the winners playing for a state title at Golden 1 Center this weekend.

    Colfax Falcons (Division II girls)

    The Falcons are looking to return to Golden 1 Center after coming up just short of a state championship one year ago.

    In this year’s state playoffs, Colfax earned close wins in the first two rounds before beating No. 9 Maria Carrillo, 51-40. The Falcons are the No. 4 seed in Division III and they will head to Chico on Tuesday to face No. 3 Pleasant Valley.

    The winner plays either No. 4 Harvard-Westlake or No. 10 Notre Dame in the Division II state championship on Saturday at 2 p.m.

    Union Mine Diamondbacks (Division IV boys)

    The Union Mine Diamondbacks from El Dorado County are two wins away from a state title.

    Union Mine, the No. 4 seed in the boys’ Division IV bracket, is in the regionals finals after beating No. 13 University Prep, No. 5 Foothill and No. 9 Palo Alto in the state playoffs.

    The Diamondbacks host No. 14 Monterey in the regional finals on Tuesday night.

    If they win, they will face either No. 1 Chatsworth or No. 2 Cleveland in the Division IV state title game on Saturday at 12 p.m.
