(FOX40.COM) — Rivers in Stanislaus County have been the final affliction for several people this year. On Tuesday, the 8th person to drown in the area was recovered from the water.

On Wednesday, the victim was identified as 26-year-old Marcos Garcia of Salida. Deputies said Garcia, who was at the river with a group of family and friends, jumped into the river around 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday to help a member of the group who was struggling to swim.

Other members of the group also jumped in the river to help, deputies added, but Garcia was the only one who was unable to make it back to shore.

Just after 8:15 p.m., the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said its air unit located Garcia and guided ground units to his location.

“One of the deputies helping with the search jumped in the water and recovered him. As soon as he was out of the water, life-saving measures were initiated, but unfortunately, Garcia was pronounced deceased at the scene,” deputies continued.

The incident comes just five days after the sheriff’s office released a chilling video that included 911 calls from family and friends of a drowning victim who called for help. One of the calls was a child in tears because he couldn’t find his father in the water.

“The following is a dispatch audio from the family of the victim, and serves as a reminder of the risks of not wearing a life jacket,” SCSO said ahead of the video release.

Law enforcement said none of the people who died, including the latest victim, were wearing a lifejacket. The incident is currently under investigation.
