    Sacramento County confirms the third heat-related death of 2024

    (FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the third heat-related death of this year .

    The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon, but officials say the death happened on Aug. 4 at Mercy San Juan Hospital.

    Cooler weather coming to the Sacramento area, possible showers farther north

    County officials identified the person as 53-year-old Stephanie Baker of Citrus Heights and say that she died of heat stroke. The confirmation also mentions that she was housed at the time of her death.

    County officials also said that because she was hospitalized at the time of her death, the Coroner’s office did not conduct an examination and did not issue a report.

    On July 7, a 58-year-old resident of Sacramento died of heat stroke . Five days later, a 77-year-old resident of Sacramento also died of heat stroke .

    Several heat waves throughout July brought temperatures in the Sacramento area higher than 100°F for several days in a row. The temperature in Sacramento on August 4 was 99°F , according to the National Weather Service.
