Experienced volunteer diver Juan Heredia, who has helped recover several bodies from Northern California waterways this year, is joining the search for an Oroville man who went missing on Sunday .

Heredia has recovered five other bodies from Northern California waterways in the last four months and says search conditions are good on Wednesday.

“The visibility is clear, we are talking about, I would say six to eight feet,” Heredia told FOX40.com. “So if I spot something under the water I will be able to identify if it is a body or not.”

Julio Gutierrez was reported missing at 2:41 a.m. on Sunday by his family after he did not return from attending an event in Biggs.

Investigators found signs of a vehicle crash along Larkin Road that indicated the vehicle left the roadway and entered the waterway.

A submerged vehicle was located in the water after a traffic collision investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle was recovered by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office and was determined to be Gutierrez’s, but he was not found inside.

This area of the Feather River is fast moving and Heredia says it is some of the coldest water he has ever dived in.
