(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento County supervisors approved on Tuesday several measures to rezone 74 sites to help address a housing shortfall identified by the state.

The actions will allow the infill sites, which are already surrounded by development and utilities, to be considered by developers for multi-family and subsidized housing projects.

The county currently has identified a shortfall of 2,884 units for lower-income families according to a state determination known as Regional Housing Needs Allocation.

“This rezone project is a significant step towards addressing the critical housing shortage in Sacramento County, and we have certain sites that already have developer interest,” reads a statement by Todd Smith, Sacramento County Planning Director.
