(FOX40.COM) — A home in Sacramento’s midtown neighborhood was recently designated a historic landmark by the city council due to its architecture and for being the home to a historic photographer.

The home is located at 2025 P St. and was added to the Sacramento Register of Historic and Cultural Resources after evaluations by city officials.

The house was built in 1907 by Levi Vandercook, a carpenter and photographer whose photo collection “is a valuable record to the visual history of Sacramento and Northern California during the first half of the 20th century,” reads a partial statement from city historian Marcia Eymann.

Vandercook and his wife, Gertrude Mary Fraser, along with their family, lived in the house for decades as they contributed to civic and religious activities, the city said.

Features of the Colonial Revival home that led to its designation include its two-story pilasters with Ionic capitals, located on the corners, and an open front porch with square fluted columns.

The listing of the home not only helps preserve part of the city’s architectural history, but allows it to be eligible for savings on property taxes and to preserve its important features , a city associate planner said.
