(FOX40.COM) — The Modesto Nuts are scheduled to be a high-priority topic for the Modesto City Council during its Tuesday meeting as the city works to continue negotiations with the baseball organization.

In June, the Modesto Nuts, a Seattle Mariners affiliate, announced their last home game would be on Sept. 8 as their lease at John Thurman Field is set to expire on Sept. 30.

On Friday, the city of Modesto issued a statement that it will be seeking an amendment to the current lease agreement with the Nuts to keep them in Modesto through September 2025.

“The amendment would also provide the city and the Modesto Nuts ownership group with additional time to continue negotiations for a long-term lease agreement,” the city wrote in its statement.

The Nuts were originally founded as the Modesto Reds in 1946, and they have seen big-name players suit up for them over the years, such as Rickey Henderson, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire and Jason Giambi.

In their time playing in Modesto, the Nuts have won ten league titles and four division titles, including a California League championship in 2023.
