(FOX40.COM) — Professional baseball will remain in Modesto for at least one more year after a unanimous city council vote to keep the Modesto Nuts through the 2025 season.

In June, negotiations fell apart between Modesto and Nuts ownership which led the team to announce that 2024 would be their final season after a decades-long run.

With the team staying, Modesto did place some new requirements upon the team’s ownership.

The nuts will pay an annual rent of $600,000 for the use of John Thurman Field, an additional $75,000 will go towards improving the field for which the club is responsible and a long-term lease agreement must be reached by April 1, 2025.

“Being able to continue our community programs from top to bottom is huge,” Modesto Nuts General Manager Veronica Hernandez said following the vote, “We are excited to have a 2025 season.”

The Nuts are a Single-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners and play in the California League, North Division where they are currently tied for second with the Fresno Grizzlies.

The Nuts were originally founded as the Modesto Reds in 1946, and they have seen big-name players suit up for them over the years, such as Rickey Henderson, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire and Jason Giambi.

In their time playing in Modesto, the Nuts have won ten league titles and four division titles, including a California League championship in 2023.
