    UPS plane reports smoke, diverts to Sacramento-area airport

    (FOX40.COM) — Fire crews jumped into action at Mather Field on Wednesday night after a UPS plane came in for an emergency landing, according to Metro Fire of Sacramento.

    At 9:19 p.m., a cargo plane heading to Ontario from Portland, Oregon was forced to divert to the Sacramento airfield after the crew reported seeing smoke in the cockpit with an odor.

    The plane landed without injury to any of the crew. Fire crews entered the aircraft and checked clear for fire.

    Once cleared by fire crews, the aircraft was towed to a maintenance hanger. Mather was temporarily closed to inbound air traffic.
