(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento’s longtime go-to location in midtown for deep-dish pizza has closed after more than 40 years in business.

Zelda’s Gourmet Pizza announced on Facebook that its last day of service was the last day in August, adding that it was a “difficult decision.”

“We are forever grateful for each and every person who walked through our door and supported us through every up and down. We are incredibly proud of what Zelda created and the legacy that continued after her,” a statement read, referring to the original founder of the business, Zelda Breslin.

In its last month in business, Zelda’s had switched to offer only to-go orders.

In a follow-up Facebook post, the operators of Zelda’s said a thank you to the hundreds of people who had shared their memories in the comments, and that they would release details about how to get t-shirts in the coming days.
