(FOX40.COM) — The city of Sacramento wants a new pedestrian bridge torn down and rebuilt after it was determined that the construction did not meet design standards.

According to a letter from the city to contractor Mountain Methods rejecting the bridge, first reported on by CBS Sacramento , the bridge was not built according to “ the plans, specifications, and approved concrete mixture designs .”

The bridge, which is an expansion of an existing train overpass, runs above Interstate 5 to connect the otherwise newly completed Del Rio Trail to the Sacramento River Bike Trail.

The city held an opening for the 5-mile biking and walking trail in May and said at the time that the bridge portion of the trail was expected to open in the summer. The city told FOX40.com that the continued closure was due to “delivery delays on materials.”

Another city scam fleecing taxpayers. What we need is a do over of the city manager, city council, mayor & heads of the department that allowed this bridge to be built without oversight & inspection.
