(FOX40.COM) — Over a two-day operation, law enforcement agencies from across Sacramento County shut down nearly a dozen ‘cartel-related’ illegal marijuana grow sites, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The operation focused on the Delta area of southern Sacramento County, where 10 separate grow sites had 36,524 illegally grown marijuana plants.

These grows were located on private property throughout the Delta without the knowledge of the property owners, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The criminals that plant and facilitate these grows will sneak the marijuana crop between the land owner’s legitimate crops to hide them,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a news release.

Besides the illegal nature of the grows, these invasive crops disrupt landowner’s crops, require the theft of water and electricity and harm the environment with waste and toxic chemicals.
