(FOX40.COM) — The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Saturday in connection with a previously undisclosed triple homicide in Lodi.

According to the sheriff’s office, on June 8, deputies conducted a welfare check at a home on Mettler Road after family members said they hadn’t heard from the residents for over a week.

The deputies found the bodies of three adults who had been shot. The victims were Joe Pena, 60, his wife Kim Huynh, 69, and their son Alfred Nguyen, 45, sheriff’s officials said.

Detectives determined that it was a “targeted incident” and found evidence pointing to a suspect, 25-year-old Steven Guerrero Jr., who was arrested on Saturday. He is facing charges of murder, burglary and a firearm enhancement.

The sheriff’s office said it did not publicize the deaths in order to not “jeopardize the integrity of the investigation.”

“We wanted to make sure he didn’t flee and we wanted to make sure we (could) get him into custody and hold him accountable for doing this…” said Sheriff Pat Withrow at a news conference.
