(FOX40.COM) — Two officers with the Nevada City Police Department continue to recover after being struck by a DUI driver while helping another driver who had struck a bear on Sunday morning.

Just before 1 a.m., the officers were on southbound Highway 49 near the Broad Street onramp setting road flares to alert oncoming drivers of a vehicle collision involving a bear that had entered the roadway.

Arrest made in previously undisclosed Lodi triple homicide

While setting the flares a vehicle drove through them and struck both officers.

One of the officers regained consciousness and made an emergency medical call through his radio.

Both of the officers were transferred to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, with one being transported by ambulance and the other by MedFlight.

The police department says that both officers have been discharged from the hospital and are recovering well.

Fire intentionally started under California’s tallest bridge, officials say

“We want to personally thank the community for all of the support, thoughts and prayers, and the other local agencies who were all so quick to reach out and provide assistance,” the police department wrote in a news release.

CHP officers located the suspected driver and confirmed that they were under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and arrested then on felony charges.
