Since last week, local law enforcement agencies and school districts have been investigating a nationwide trend of reposting threats of gun violence on social media platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook. The threats included several Northern California schools and although police said the threats are not credible, several teens have been arrested.

Arrest reports came pouring in on Monday and continued into Tuesday. So far, 8 students have been taken into police custody. Law enforcement previously reported arrests of students in areas such as Sacramento, Stanislaus County, Modesto, Manteca, and Lodi. Here are the latest arrests.

    Sacramento

The Sacramento Police Department announced the arrest of a 14-year-old girl for criminal threats. She was a student at McClatchy High School.

“In a time when parents around this country have to mourn the loss of a child due to a school shooting, it is absolutely unacceptable that anyone would perpetuate this fear in others,” SPD said in a statement. “The Sacramento Police Department takes a firm stance against this type of behavior and will investigate these incidents to the fullest extent of the law.”

    Stockton

On Tuesday, the Stockton Police Department arrested a 15-year-old boy from the Lodi Unified School District. Police said he was apprehended for making a threatening video against a local elementary school. He will be facing criminal threat-related charges.

“We want to ensure parents and students realize that making threats can lead to disciplinary action at their school, including potential legal consequences,” Stockton PD said.

Officers said they are working closely with local authorities and are taking all school threats seriously.

    Galt

Another 15-year-old boy was arrested by the Galt Police Department on Tuesday. Police said the juvenile made online threats against area high schools. He was booked into the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on felony charges.

“We understand the concern these threats have caused for members of our community, especially the students, parents and staff of our local schools,” GPD said. “We will continue to work collaboratively with GJUESD and GJUHSD to ensure our campuses are a safe place for students.”
