(FOX40.COM) — A Sacramento County Sheriff’s aircraft was forced to make an emergency crash landing in Yolo County on Thursday morning after experiencing engine failure, according to the sheriff’s office.

At 8:15 a.m., the Sacramento Fire Department was alerted of an aircraft experiencing engine failure and would attempt to land at Sacramento Executive Airport.

While at an altitude of 500 feet, the aircraft crew reported engine failure and were three miles from Sacramento Executive Airport.

Fire officials say the sheriff’s deputy piloting the aircraft was flying to Woodland for routine maintenance.

The crew ended up making an emergency landing near the intersection of Village Parkway and Lake Washington Boulevard in Yolo County.

During the emergency landing, the front landing gear dug into the rough field and caused the plane to flip onto its canopy.

The pilot was the only person onboard and reported having no injuries.
