(FOX40.COM) — The former fire chief of a Northern California fire district was convicted of embezzlement , the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday.

The agency said Frank Ramirez was a retired fire chief of the Mokelumne Rural Fire District, which serves an area in northeast San Joaquin County. Ramirez was chief from 2016 until December of 2022.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said that on Tuesday, Ramirez pleaded no contest to two felony counts of embezzlement by public officers.

The sheriff’s office said it received a report of alleged embezzlement in February of 2023 and that an investigation that included a search warrant at his residence turned up fire department property, including a dump trailer.
